Great Graphic: Energy Expenditures Per Capita & California

This Great Graphic from the US Department of Energy examines 2009 Energy Expenditure per person by state. (You can check out the graphic in more detail at the Department of Energy site here).

In state by state graphics like this one I like to look at California. Not only is it the largest state, but I like to think it serves as a good sample for the rest of the country.

While I may not agree with his views (especially with regards to energy) but Arnold Vinick put it quite well when he said: "California is the one state that has everything: big cities, small towns, mountains, deserts, farms, factories, fishermen, surfers, all races, all religions, gay, straight, everything this country has. There's more real America in California than anywhere else."

I think it is no concidence that in 2009 California spent the second lowest amount per capita on energy and that same year over 20% of that came from renewable sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric facilities.
