This Great Graphic is really a slide show presentation of the results of Pew Research Center's international survey of perceptions and attitudes about the US and China. The results are fascinating and it is especially noteworthy to see the changes over time. It is probably a mistake to place great importance on any one result, but directions and patterns may be more revealing, such as the large negative perceptions and attitudes Japanese and South Koreans have toward China.
Another remarkable finding is the increase from a fifth of the total responses to a full third from 2008 to 2013 that believe that China has already replaced the US as the world's leading economic power. I suspect, based on conversations with Chinese officials and bankers, that many of them don't believe that, even if it is an aspiration.
