In this Cool Video from You Tube, Professor T. Piketty provides an overview of his book Capital in the 21st Century. In a little less than 4 minutes learn why this timely book will help shape the current discussion of inequality. The book's thesis is that because profits grow faster than the economy, there is a concentration of wealth and income unless there is political push back, which has happened previously.
This concentration of wealth and income has reached levels that Piketty claims is threatening the middle class and democracy, which is, of course, not a new contention. However, on this side of the 2007-2009 financial and economic crisis, it has become more salient for more people. Even the World Economic Forum in Davos discussed it (though of course had no idea on how to address it).
