This Great Graphic was tweeted by SciencePorn. It shows the familiar periodic table of elements, but identifies the country that discovered them. It is interesting, even though the broader significance may be limited.
I was surprised that Sweden was the third most active discoverer. Perhaps it is due more to my lack of a sufficient appreciation of the history of science. I was equally surprised that Italy is tied with Spain with one element discovery each.
Of course, nations don't really make the discoveries, people do. It would be interesting to see how many of the US and UK discoveries were made by immigrants.
