The Economist, like others, calls Picketty the modern Marx. This is not really fair to either one. Marx, arguably, was more interested in exploitation than inequality of income or wealth. Capital was not marketable wealth for Marx, as it is for Picketty, but a social relationship. The way out was not offer universal education, as the American Socialist Party did before the main parties or to provide it on a more meritocratic basis.
